Ah, the half-way point.

Obviously the aforementioned and much touted 30 days are not, and will not be, consecutive (that was a wild dream) but I do intend to see this project through. So far, it has been invaluable for me, satisfying some deep need to explore and sprint through ideas - usually I lope like a turtle.

The hibiscus sits by the window at the bottom of the stairs. 

Unaware of wind, cold and snow, its roots are not sleeping in the frozen ground. It only knows there is more light and so - it is flowering again…

my eyes are hungry for this sight; my heart expands outwards with delight.

30 paintings in 30 days # 9: Angel’s Trumpets, oil on paper, 17 x 11 inches.

Also known as Datura, a plant of particular importance to native peoples of Central and S. America. It is hallucinogenic, one of the plants used in ayahuasca brews. The variety I have grown here at home matures into a small bush;  the one found in Guatemala is the size of a small tree with large flowers hanging downward like fragrant trumpets.

Hibiscus in Winter, 30 paintings in 30 days # 8; 14 x 20 inches;  oil on paper.

My garden has moved indoors. The flowers nod to the void of winter, say the light is coming back.

White birches by Lac Davignon in Cowansville, Québec: 13 x 19.5 inches, oil (and pen and ink) on paper.

Number 7 in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Although I am taking more than one day to complete these small works, compared to the time it usually takes I consider it lightning speed. A growing pile of imperfect images, the freshness of possibility. 

I’ve always loved the white birch. This one might find its way to canvas…

Here is # 6 in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, 12 x 13 inches, oil on paper. I like the shape…almost square.
